This Apple Pie Bread Pudding combines tender apples and warm spices soaked into soft bread, topped with a rich vanilla custard for a comforting dessert experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups day-old bread, cubed
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for custard)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the bread cubes with sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until evenly coated.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, milk, heavy cream, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread and apple mixture, gently pressing down to soak all pieces thoroughly.
  5. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes to absorb the custard.
  6. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
